When searching for journal articles from Educator's Reference Complete or another database, try the following search terms:

  • Science Education
  • Science Teachers
  • Science Curricula
  • Collaborative Learning
  • Science Experiments

It may also be helpful to combine a general search term with a specific search term. For example:

  • Science Education and Canada
  • Science Experiments and Biology

TED-Ed: Lessons Worth Sharing

On TED-Ed you will find video lessons complete with quizzes, handouts, and lesson plans. You can "Flip this Lesson" to create a customized lesson for your students. TED-Ed can also help you create a customized lesson for any video on YouTube. Check the subject guides for selected TED-Ed videos.


SMART Exchange

Sign-up for a free account to find and share SMART board lesson plans and activities. There are activities for grades K-12.


Planboard from Vetica Interactive Inc. is a free online software for lesson planning. Planboard helps you: create and schedule lessons; tailor lessons to Ontario curriculum expectations; attach documents and handouts directly to your lesson plan; embed multimedia sources in your lesson plan; share your lessons with colleagues.

Includes resources such as lesson plans and Edukits on a variety of science topics that are Canadian and Curriculum based.

Ask your Learning Commons Informationist for the username and password.


When looking for general grade and subject resources, select the BROWSE BY CURRICULUM tab on the search screen.

If you are looking for resources that incorporate collaborative inquiry or problem based learning, filter your results under TEACHER AND LEARNER STRATEGY FILTERS by INQUIRY AND RESEARCH MODELS or ACTIVITY BASED LEARNING.

Searching Tips:

  • When looking for grade specific resources search for the topic and grade level. For example: Science Grade 2 or Science Intermediate.
  • If you find a resource you like, scroll down to Explore! and click on a subject heading to find similar resources.
