Family abuse is when a parent or caregiver abuses or neglects a child. This abuse can happen in different ways. Hitting and hurting is called physical abuse. Saying mean things is called emotional abuse. Touching a child in a sexual way is called sexual abuse. And one kind of abuse, neglect, is when a parent or caregiver doesn’t take care of their child.
